If you take the BTS (Sukhumvit line towards Bearing) alight at Phrompong Station and take exit 6. It's a 5-minute walk through Benjasiri Park and go through Imperial Queen's Park Back entrance at exit at the main entrance in front.

Once you reach the road in front of the hotel, turn left and you'll see a yellow signage bearing 'USMAN Restaurant' on it. Get into the little street as in the photo below:

Usman is a small, yet comfy Thai restaurant specialising in Southern Thai delicacies. Khun Usman (the owner), his wife (the chef) and a few of his staff speak Southern Thai Malay. Small private functions can also be held on the second floor. Prayer room is available, too. It opens from 10.00am to 10.00pm, Saturday to Thursday; closes on Friday.

Tomyam kung: hot and sour shrimp soup.

If you like the tomyam soup, you can purchase the homemade tomyam paste at THB80 per tub.

Puu phat phong karii: Stir fried crab with curry powder

Phat phet kai: Stir fried chicken with chili

Phat phak ruam: stir fried mixed vegetable

Phat kaprao pla muek: stir fried squid with sweet basil leaves

Phat kanna pla khem: stir fried kailan with salted fish

Kai thot krathiam : deep fried chicken with garlic

Satisfied Malaysians after a good dinner. Just look at all the plates-all gone!!!

The New World City Hotel (a Halal hotel) is owned by a Muslim couple which makes it suitable for Muslim tourists in Bangkok. Although it doesn't serve alcohol in its premise, it's very much preferred by non-Muslim travellers because of its location and reasonable room rates when booked on-line.

The hotel is situated in the historic area of the city. It is not far from the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew Temple, and within walking distance to the Banglumpu shopping area and popular Khao San Road.

It has 172 modern, bright, well appointed en-suite bedrooms : 3 Suites, 54 Deluxe, and 115 Superior. All rooms have windows and balconies, private bathrooms with hot & cold showers, telephone with IDD, TV, and refrigerator.

There's also a surau on the ground floor.

Halal food in Bangkok: Ibrahim's Shop

Yesterday we had lunch at Ibrahim's Shop, situated at No. 455, Petchaburi Road, Soi 7 (Soi Sulao), Bangkok. It's two doors away from the Darul Aman Mosque. We were served by the owner's daughter who speaks English well. Besides being able to speak English well (phut phasa ungkrit kheng), she cooks well, too. We had a good lunch which cost us 210baht only. We had three servings of rice (khao), pla sam rod, khung sai setor, a bottle of water and a complimentary plate of deep fried cow's tongue (lin). Keiron said no wonder he likes to eat tongue very much as my name means tongue in phasa Thai..he,he,he
