Learning Thai cooking from a genuine Thai chef has always been my dream and today (12 March 2010) my friends and I had the precious opportunity to attend a cooking class at the Silom Thai Cooking School. It's owned by a very cheerful and bubbly Southern Thai Muslim chef called Nusi and situated at the end of Silom Soi 13. The were 11 students: 3 Malaysians, 3 Indonesians, 2 English, 2 Germans and 1 Singaporean. We had a great time going to the market, preparing ingredients, cooking and eating together.
Khun Nusi waited for us at Chongnonsi BTS Station.
Each of us gets a basket to be filled with ingredients for today's class.
Khun Nusi explains the different ingredients needed for today's class.
Walking to the school with full baskets.
Sawatdiikha. Welcome to Silom Thai Cooking School.
We started by cleaning all these...
... and the prawns, and the chicken, too.
The British squeezing grated coconut to get the cream and coconut milk.
Preparing for tomyam kung.
Pounding session: preparing green curry paste from scratch.
Pretty maids in a row???? It's time for frying.
WHAT WE COOKED:
Tomyam kung
Northeastern chicken salad(laab kai) & glutinous rice (khao niao)
Thai fried noodles (Phad Thai)
Chicken in green curry (kaeng khiao wan kai)
Sweet potato with coconut milk
At the end of the session, we left with not only new knowledge but also full tummies.
Thank you Khun Nusi for the exciting experience at your cozy cooking school.
